The Web Developer plays an integral role in the life cycle of all client and internal projects as well as the day-to-day maintenance of existing projects.

We are looking for a creative, career-oriented individual who is comfortable working both in a small team on large projects, and independently on smaller-scale work. The ideal candidate will be passionate about building clean, compliant, handcrafted websites, have an appreciation for web-standards, and possess a solid grasp of SEO best practices.

You're alone on the corner of Michigan & Wacker in desolate downtown Chicago during a two-year zombie apocalypse while a relentless horde of three hundred undead are hot on your heels! Frantic decision-making narrows down your choices for sanctuary to four locations: Water Tower Place shopping center (1 mile away), Shedd Aquarium (2 miles away), Rush University Medical Center (3 miles away), or Cook County Jail (4 miles away). Which location would you choose to run to and why is it better than the other three? We will review only the resumes of those who answer this question in the comments box below.

We have a growing and diverse group of clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small-but-promising start-ups. Any typical day here at Tecture may have you:

  • Developing JavaScript / jquery code.
  • Styling and fine-tuning ASP.NET MVC applications.
  • Developing in a CMS, such as Tecture’s Site Ignition platform Site Ignition or Drupal.
  • Fielding support calls online and offline and handling basic technical questions from clients.

Requirements for this position:

  • 2+ years experience in a similar role (Bachelors degree preferred.)
  • Ability to hand-code valid, semantic and accessible HTML with cross-browser compatible CSS.
  • Attention to detail and pixel-perfect conversion of Photoshop and/or Illustrator designs into CSS-based HTML.
  • Ability to hand-code and debug JavaScript, plus familiarity with libraries such as jquery.
  • Knowledge of browser specific bugs.
  • Strong knowledge of a content management system, ideally Drupal.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects under tight time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working on both Windows and Mac.

Additional skills that would fulfill our wildest dreams:

  • Possess an eye for design
  • Solid grasp of modern SEO techniques
  • Dealing with HTML in email clients
